Social sustainability means promoting social cohesion to achieve sustainability goals, emphasising inclusivity and well-being for all. It also encompasses physical and social design, including infrastructure, amenities, civic engagement, and spaces for people, while integrating principles of environmental sustainability and social equity.

Design for a Sustainable Future

This area covers the incorporation of sustainable principles into design practices

Activities:

  • Collaborated with BASIS Vinschgau-Venosta, KAUZ – laboratory for climate justice, the Citizen Cooperative Obervinschgau, and unibz – Faculty of Design and Art to co-organize the annual conference “By Design or By Disaster”.
  • Partnered with Botteghe del Mondo – Weltläden Südtirol, OEW – Organisation for a solidary world (Brixen), and Slow Fashion Journalist Susanne Barta to co-organize the “Fashion for Future” festival.
  • Co-organized UPCON – Upcycling Convention in Brixen with REX – Materials and things (Bozen) and OEW – Organisation for a solidary world (Brixen).
  • Collaborated with the VIVO garden student initiative to organize a seminar on “Creative Composting – Communities, Circularity, and Microorganisms”.
  • Cp-held the conference “String Figures – By Design or by Disaster” from 29 March 2023 to 1 April 2023, featuring the annual gathering of the MA Eco-Social Design.
  • Co-organized "Fashion For Future Bolzano" from 27 April 2023 to 6 May 2023, focusing on sustainable and fair fashion with social conferences, materials exhibitions, and interactive workshops.
  • Hosted a seminar on “Creative Composting – Communities, Circularity and Microorganisms” with Ayumi Matsuzaka on 6 December 2023, focusing on community-based Terra Preta Soil production in Berlin.
