The course is addressed to graduate students and young researchers in the fields of Engineering, Applied Mathematics and Applied Physics, as well as to professionals and R&D staff from industry. The course is especially of interest to researchers dealing with phenomena involving cavitation in industrial or environmental processes.

Cavitation is a thermodynamic multiphase process occurring in liquids and of interest for several industrial and environmental applications. Cavitation has a detrimental effect in hydraulic machinery and devices since it may produce erosion of pump impellers, ship propellers, valve trims and produce noise. On the other hand, it may be used for medical purposes or as a process intensifier technique in many industrial processes as well as for chemical-free water treatment purposes.

Lectures will cover several topics, including: an introduction of the basic thermodynamics and fluid mechanics of cavitation; numerical and experimental techniques to predict and understand cavitation processes; cavitation associated noise; cavitation in applicative problems, like hydraulic machinery, medical systems and water purification processes.
