Quality Assurance

Text

The Quality Assurance (QA) process at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano is based on the European Standard and Guidelines for Quality Assurance (ESG), which are supported and applied by the Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of the University System and Research Institutes (ANVUR).

The Quality Committee and the Evaluation Committee are the two central bodies: they monitor compliance with the Quality Assurance processes, define its instruments for those processes and verify their suitability. The Quality Committee is an internal body and has the important task of accompanying and supporting all stakeholders involved in Quality Assurance. The Evaluation Committee, on the other hand, is an external body that serves as a point of reference for quality assurance and as a link to the Ministry and ANVUR.

Quality at unibz, however, is perceived as a process that involves the entire university community of students, lecturers and the technical administrative staff. Together with the representatives from the region and the business industry, we are working to continuously improve and to create a transparent and clear Quality Assurance process that is supported by all.

Intranet Cockpit

One part of the unibz Intranet Cockpit is dedicated to Quality Assurance: the info site Quality Assurance contains all of the information and the corresponding documentation on QA processes.

The AVA system

The AVA System (self-evaluation - periodic evaluation - accreditation, ital. Autovalutazione - Valutazione periodica - Accreditamento) is the Quality Assurance model defined by ANVUR since 2013 and aims to improve the quality of teaching and research at Italian universities.

The model is based on internal processes for the planning, management, self-evaluation and improvement in teaching and research, as well as on a transparent external audit.

The audit leads to an accreditation verdict in which a university (and its study programmes) is recognized as complying with the required quality requirements (initial accreditation) or their maintenance (periodic accreditation).

The Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR) has confirmed the periodic accreditation of the University and the study programmes of the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano with the decree n. 220 of 19.06.2020.

The AVA system was thus developed to achieve three main objectives:

  • the assurance from the Ministry and through ANVUR's evaluation activities that higher education institutions in Italy offer a uniform standard of quality for their users and for the society as a whole;
  • the responsible and reliable autonomy of universities in the use of public resources and their collective and individual assessment in teaching and research activities;
  • improving the quality of teaching and research.
