This research area brings together diverse perspectives and expertise from the disciplines of Sociology, Social Statistics, Social Anthropology, Law, Social Policy, Social Pedagogy and Social Work.
The members of the research area work on a variety of projects contributing to theory development, fundamental and applied research in scientific domains regarding the social world, diversity, population, institutions, values, environment and space as well as cultural studies, cultural identities and memories and cultural heritage.
Based on a broad scientific anchoring, the area at the same time mirrors common objectives in the social sciences and allows for synergetic collaborations on themes like families, migration, life courses, labour, welfare needs, policies and services.
The specific expertise of the area lies in linking a broad range of theoretical perspectives and research approaches with a shared interest in processes of social inclusion and innovation, institutional development and professional practice.
